VINEYARDS

A unique landscape

to preserve

Returning to the earth what we have taken from it.

Castell d’Encus starts with this ambition in a privileged location

in the Lleida Pyrenees, in Talarn,

with vineyards placed between 800 and 1.230 meters above sea level.

Here we have the height to look for fresher wines without giving up good maturation.

We know how important the grape is in the elaboration of a good wine,

and we grant the deserved prominence to the land,

the landscape and the environment that needs to be preserved.

Persistence and the attention to the give us fine, author wines

of exceptional quality as a result.

Castell d’Encus

A total of 93 hectares shape the estate that gives name to the project, in a privileged location, between 800 and 950 meters of altitude, where exceptional wines are born.

The vineyard, managed according to organic viticulture principles, consists of 29 hectares of the estate. Yields are low and soils are poor in organic matter. We find varieties such as riesling, albariño, sauvignon blanc, semillon, pinot noir, syrah, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot and grenache. Varied soils help them to grow, most of which are calcareous loam of marine origin.

Here we find the remains of the old town of Castilló d’Encús, and the 9 stone fermenters from the 12th century. These fermenters are still used nowadays to ferment Castell d’Encus’ red wines, and a part of the whites.

Santa Engràcia

At 1.000 metres high we have Santa Engràcia vineyards, with riesling, chardonnay, chenin blanc, pinot noir, syrah, cabernet franc and grenache.

The different altitudes and orientations of the vineyards lead to high variations in temperatures and exposures. With these data, Raül Bobet and Castell d’Encus team study each estate and each variety to find the perfect place to obtain the best grapes to produce extraordinary wines.

Astell

It is worth noting the last vines we’ve planted, brought to the limit, in Vall Fosca: it is located at an altitude of 1.230 meters above sea level on Pyrenean slate soils. It is a Riesling and Pinot Noir vineyard, with a very low production and great experimental interest. Once again, vineyard to the limit, a challenge, and a bet by Raül Bobet for the land, the Pallars and the Pyrenees.
