800 AND 950 METERS HIGH
Castell d’Encus
These vineyards located in Serra de la Costa Ampla, between 800 and 950m high, are the vines closer to the winery. Planted in high density in 2001, we find the riesling, albariño, sauvignon blanc, semillon, pinot noir, syrah, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot and grenache.
Here we find the remains of the old town of Castilló d’Encús, the little chapel of Sant Martí and the 9 stone fermenters carved by Hospitaller order monks in the 12th century. These fermenters are still used nowadays to ferment Castell d’Encus’ red wines, and a part of the whites.
1.000 METERS HIGH
Santa Engràcia
The vines were planted in 2015 in the village of Santa Engràcia at 1.000m high and have been producing since 2021.
In these vineyards we have riesling, chardonnay, chenin blanc, pinot noir, syrah, cabernet franc and grenache.
1.230 METERS HIGH
Astell
These vineyards are located in the village of Astell, in the Vall Fosca, at an altitude of 1.230m high. They are the youngest vineyards in Castell d’Encus and they still do not have a remarkable production, but they do have a high experimental interest because we are taking the vineyard to the limit with these cooler temperatures. Its soils, unlike those found in Castell d’Encus or Santa Engràcia, are made of Pyrenean slate.
The varieties planted in 2017 are riesling and pinot noir.
